The Giving Pot of Blessings was created to inspire each of us toward growing a giving heart. Though it is true that the more we give, the more we receive, we know that true givers do not give to receive merely for themselves, but rather they give so they may be prosperous in order to give perpetually to others. We acknowledge that our Loving & Gracious God provides all that is needed for His people. So we give, knowing that true protection, health, and wealth comes solely from the Lord! Therefore, we engage with one another as stewards of His generosity and we do as He has guided us to do by His Word. Below are scriptures that define the foundation of The Giving Pot of Blessings!
“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” — Luke 6:38
“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” — Proverbs 11:25
“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” — 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” — Acts 20:35
My name is Emily and I am a homeschool mother of 4 children and 1 on the way. This site was inspired by God's Word and the covenant He made with His people. But also, oddly enough, it was through my experience with making Gluten-Free Sourdough Bread that the idea for The Giving Pot of Blessings came to fruition. For anyone familiar with baking sourdough bread, you will know that a sourdough starter first needs to be cultivated which essentially serves as the yeast of the bread. In order to maintain a sourdough starter you need to continuously discard about half of it and then feed it back flour and water at about the same amount. This process allows the starter to stay active essentially for as long as someone tends to it, so theoretically for a lifetime. One of my concerns when beginning to make this type of bread was the waste that came from needing to discard half of the starter each time. However, it turned out that this was not the case. Not only did I find ways to easily incorporate the starter discard into recipes I already make (which satisfied my concern of being wasteful), I also found that by the time I was ready to take out the discard my starter had already grown almost double than it was before to the point that even if I did throw the discard away it wouldn't have resulted with me wasting flour. This might sound confusing to anyone that has never baked with sourdough starter before, but to say it plainly -- essentially each time I gave to my sourdough starter, it basically gave double back to me in return. Simultaneous to me realizing this, I was involved in a study about the Bible & Prosperity which I followed on Andrew Wommack's Gospel Truth series titled "Financial Stewardship". It was through all of these thoughts converging in my mind together that this idea arose about creating a Giving Pot that would be fruitful & self-sustaining while following the Word of God.
One of the challenges with giving to organizations in our society today is not knowing if our money is truly being used to help others. This is why it is so important that we get to know our communities well so we can help and be helped by our neighbors. Yet, in this rat race paced lifestyle in which many of us live, engagement with our neighbors is not always prioritized. The practice of "giving" to others has been expectedly pushed aside as we have become overwhelmed with the many stresses of life. It is sometimes at our lowest moments that God catches our attention and we begin to focus on the Word & the Way. Sincere and active engagement with the Bible bears many fruits on one's soul. I feel that in some ways these fruits manifest as almost an awakening of the heart alongside a shedding of scales that this fallen world has placed on us. Through God's Grace & Jesus's Generosity there is a way to move forward in such a world with an all consuming feeling that is not corrupted by anxiety or fear, but rather is filled with peace, faith, & love. It is from these latter feelings that I felt inspired to begin a trail of giving that could be kept alive by our trusted friends and extensions thereof, while prodding us to look around at our fellow neighbors and give to those in need.
Only the Lord knows where such endeavors lead. But I don't bother my mind with knowing all of the details of the future. As long as I know the Lord and He knows me I am satisfied, for His is the only future that lasts forever.
May God Bless you & for those who haven't read the Bible nor have been actively engaging with scripture, I encourage you to begin with the New Testament and then continue to the Old Testament. God's Word will truly transform your life.
